Picking a venue is one of the most important things you do when planning your wedding. You have to make sure the space is big enough, you have to make sure it has the right look – maybe you want lots of windows, maybe you want vintage décor. You may have to make sure it has wheelchair access, or other special needs that your guests may require. You also want it to be your dream space! Chances are you have been thinking about this day for a really long time. So your venue has to be perfect! Unfortunately, there are some issues that brides come across when venue hunting, and they were definitely not expecting them!

Make sure you ask about décor. Chances are, you are going to want to add some things to your venue. Even the perfect venue needs a bit of a personal touch! Some venues do not allow for certain types of décor (for example, hanging fabric or confetti). Be sure you ask before booking!

Find out what time you have to be out at the end of the night. Right?! You never think about this stuff! You have to clean up your wedding! Some venues will let you come back the next day and clean up the morning after. Others will require that you are out that night (or early the next morning – 2AM, let’s say) so that they are able to set up for another event. Make sure you double check!

Find out ALL of your hidden costs! I went to a wedding at an art gallery a few years ago where the couple was quoted a great price, so they signed right on. Unfortunately, they found out after that they had to also pay for the cost of security at the venue, since it was an art gallery. They had no idea! Most places will be upfront about the costs, but ask for a print out of a break-down of cost, that way there will be no surprises (and you may be able to save money if you can haggle on some of the smaller items!).
