Plan Your Big Day in 12 Months – Part 1

You said YES! Congratulations to both you lovebirds! While you’re still giddy with love, a part of you is probably thinking, “What next”?

Don’t worry about it at all, because you’ve come to the right place! Planning a wedding can be tough, but with our help, you’re sure to ace this.

Here’s a 12-month timeline leading up to your wedding day!

Planning 12-6 Months Before Your Wedding

Create a Wedding Folder

A wedding folder or binder will serve as a home for all your wedding inspirations. Leaf through magazines and browse online for ideas on wedding themes and décor, bride and bridesmaids dresses, food and drinks, and more. Share ideas with your partner and get an understanding of their likes and dislikes too.

Weddings come with a lot of hidden costs, so be sure to factor them all in along with the bigger expenses like the wedding dress, venue, catering, etc. Make your budget as detailed as possible, and break it down to reflect who’s paying for what.

Pick the Wedding Party

Pop the question to bridesmaids and groomsmen early on so nobody is left wondering whether or not they’re in. This might also be the time to throw a small engagement party for your favourite people who you’re going to be counting on for support through the months leading up to your big day!

Compile the Guest List

This is important at this stage so you have a headcount to use through the planning process. Start collecting addresses too so you’re not running around in circles when it’s time to send out invites.

Decide: Wedding Planner or DIY

If you’re planning to hire a wedding planner, draw up a list of a few good ones, interview them, check out client reviews, and narrow down to 2-3. Discuss ideas with shortlisted ones, get quotes, negotiate, and finalize your wedding planner. If going the DIY route, make a detailed list of all tasks along with names of family members and friends you can turn to for help. But do ask them first!

Decide: Wedding Theme and Décor

Enough of browsing through magazines and Pinterest images: pick a favourite theme (or two) and give it your own twist to make your big day unique and memorable. Remember to take your partner’s suggestions, and ideas from friends and relatives with great taste! Deciding on a theme early on will help you make the right purchase decisions for everything right from the venue and stationery to your wedding cake.

Book the Venue and Officiant

If you intend to exchange vows on a particular date, it makes sense to book a venue of your choice early on. More so, if the date falls in peak wedding season! Postpone this task for a few months down the line if you can be flexible with the date and general setup. Book your officiant around the same time.

Shop for the Wedding Dress

You’ll need plenty of time for alterations and fittings, so don’t leave this important purchase for later. You should set out dress hunting by the 10th month from your wedding, if not earlier!

…Stay Tuned for Part 2!
